FAQs

  • Anyone can learn more about how they move and on a daily basis and find areas of their general natural movement patterns that can be improved.

Reclaim Movement benefits those most who are noticing a decline in their mobility, which is starting to cause them barriers in the way they want to move through life.

There may be increased ‘creakiness’ or ‘tightness’ and movement no longer feels efficient.

This can simply be caused by normal modern living (e.g. sitting at a desk for many hours of the day or rarely getting down to the floor) or sometimes a previous injury has created a pattern of fear of certain movements or a lack of stability which is impacting their overall fluidity of movement. Often a decrease in strength or balance also becomes apparent.

Natural movement coaching works on mobility, strength and confidence in movement.

  • The sessions give practical methods to move safely and efficiently in daily life by breaking down natural movement patterns into skills & techniques.

The movement skills are taught giving real-life, ‘practical’ examples (where possible) so that you can use the skills you learn and become aware of techniques to enable you to perform the activity safely and beneficially in your everyday life.

The membership also offers a large library of mini videos (5 or 10 minutes maximum) around different elements of the skills we work on, so that you can add in daily practise to suit your requirements, such as core strength, balance, getting up and down, crawling, sitting on the ground and movement breaks that cover a variety of different movements.

  • MovNat is an international real-world strength and fitness method that was started by Erwan le Corre over 10 years ago, that aims to give you a new quality of movement by learning practical skills.

MovNat is characterized by a safe and progressive training practice and can be trained both indoors (in the gym or at home) and outdoors.

Why ‘real-world’? Because it’s about training your body in natural daily movements, to be capable of enjoying all of life’s opportunities whatever your age.

The MovNat method is the breakdown of the skills & techniques of natural movement we are born with.

Movements are all either multi-joint or whole-body movements as this is how our bodies react efficiently and adapt to practical situations.

MovNat can be taught to any individual at any age or ability level to enhance their overall movement skills.

  • The key areas you will learn are a multitude of ground positions, many different ways to transition from the floor to standing, squatting and crawling, balancing, lifting & carrying, throwing & catching and for those who want to go further (only covered in private coaching sessions); jumping & vaulting, hanging & climbing.

Classes work on the lower impact, lower intensity movements to improve mobility and strength in order to then be able to move on to becoming more efficient and capable.

All the movements have both regressions (breaking a movement down into its sequenced parts) and progressions (increasing volume, endurance or adding load). In this way, we can therefore master the basic foundations of all movements and then build on these foundations to progress as our bodies learn and get stronger.

  • Like all movement practices, the more you fit into your daily life the better.

To see the benefits, and to learn the skills & techniques weekly attendance of a class (live or by replay) would be the minimum amount needed.

In lessons, I also talk about ‘life-stacking’ which is a great way to add in many of the basic movements on a daily basis to see the benefits more quickly.

Consistency is always the key to moving and feeling better, but if moving (or exercising as people in the fitness industry say) becomes a chore, or you don’t feel the benefits, then it is hard to persevere. I love practising natural movement as it makes sense to my mind and body and I find it easy to fit around daily life.

How we move in every hour of our lives determines our strength and mobility (not just what we do in a class) and ultimately contributes to our overall health, hence the membership video library being split into longer form class videos (30 or 45 minutes) as well as over 80 (and growing) 5 & 10-minute videos that can be used as mini movement breaks throughout your day.

  • It is absolutely for you! The beauty of teaching natural movement is that all skills are broken down to be able to start re-building strong foundations at any level of ability or stage of life.

To be able to join group classes I would suggest starting with the mini videos in the membership to build your mobility and gain confidence in your movement abilities. If you are nervous to try, then perhaps some 1 to 1 coaching would be the best place to start to transition you to classes.

Everyone will start at a different place and that’s why I offer as many regressions of movement and progressions in classes and the MOVE mini video library can help you to practise movements at your own pace.

  • If you live in or around Oxford and can work with me in my private gym or if you live elsewhere I also coach 1 to 1 on zoom. I plan each session based on your personal movement abilities.

However, ‘Friends Groups’ are fun for 3 or 4 friends who decide to practice together as a private group. These can currently be held in my garden, or on Zoom from your own homes.

  • Natural movement skills are not confined to the size of a yoga mat, so having a rug or carpeted area to create a softer surface on which to kneel is useful if you feel your knees or hips need to be bolstered. I also sometimes use a yoga mat rolled up for certain movements too, but you can also use a rolled-up towel for these movements or even a cushion. A foam half dome is also a great alternative that you can use daily for various key stretches.

A space of about 6ft x 6ft is needed, but bigger is always useful for full freedom of movement. I would recommend practising in the garden on grass if your Wifi will stretch that far and the weather is kind to you, as practising in the fresh air is by far the best way to enjoy the practice. People sometimes push their beds aside (good strength training!) and work in their bedrooms.

If you attend a session in my gym, we use a whole variety of equipment like steps, poles, chairs, weighted balls, balancing planks and even a bar for hanging. Many of these items can be substituted in the home environment with bags full of books, mop handles, hard boxes and so on. I will always tell you the kinds of things you will need prior to the session in the app, so you can come prepared!

  • Once I have received your enquiry, I will contact you so we can discuss whether I am the right person to help.

I will then send you an email including a link to a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form, my coaching agreement in the form of my Terms & Conditions. Starting training with me means you are happy with these terms and conditions (all listed on this website).

You will need to sign up to a block of 4 sessions and fill in an online questionnaire prior to the first session. This session looks at the way you currently move and incorporates a discussion about your goals. From this session, you will have some homework to put into practise before the next session.

Subsequent sessions are a mix of learning movements (both practical to be applied to daily life and healthy new movements to benefit your mobility, strength and confidence), assessing progress and giving you homework to build on the sessions and start to form new movement habits and increase your daily movement repertoire.

Private coaching is all about working with your specific movement ability, looking at your current lifestyle and learning ways of incorporating natural movements that benefit your body into your everyday life consistently, in order to see progress and make changes that will benefit you in the long-term.

The price of sessions includes planning with your specific needs in mind, coaching your technique during the session itself and homework in the form of an email sign-posting you to movement videos.

    Full Membership Access

As well as attending the private coaching sessions, private clients will be given full access to my membership area for the duration of working with me, where homework movements and other useful videos at the right level can be accessed to further your movement journey.

    Please come dressed to move.

  • Coaching sessions are 45 minutes long. Please arrive a few minutes before the start of the session then we can start promptly to make the most of your time. If you are late for any reason I will not be able to extend the agreed time period as I will need to prepare for my next client.

If you are attending a Zoom class I will send out the link and you can join the meeting prior to the scheduled time to be ready to start.

  • Payment is via an invoice sent through the secure online payments processor Stripe. Payment must be made prior to sessions. You do not need to have a Stripe account to make payments through this method.

  • Contact must be made directly via email or text to cancel (phone number supplied on signing up) or change booked sessions. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a full charge. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur a 50% charge if I cannot fill the appointment with an alternative client booking, at my discretion. Cancellations for future pre-paid sessions and packages that have already started will incur a 25% charge for any outstanding sessions to cover time spent by the trainer developing and planning the programme.
