Private Coaching

Kim

“My 1:1 sessions with Wendy have been life-changing.
Wendy is always well-prepared with individually appropriate movements and follows up with thorough instructions on how to incorporate the movements into everyday life. I have learnt so much at each session and have enjoyed the homework each week too using the Reclaim Movement app, which has been helpful and user-friendly.
It has given me a taste of how to move forward with my recovery.”

Private 1 to 1 Coaching In Person or Online

If you'd like to get started with some natural movement training and education, but don't feel you're quite ready for live classes, or if you would prefer an individually tailored programme due to personal circumstances such as a previous injury that you need to take into consideration, then please do get in touch so we can discuss your circumstances.

Duration & Timing

Sessions are 45 minutes are preferably booked for the same regular weekly session between Tuesdays & Wednesdays during the 5-week coaching terms.

Location

These sessions are either held in person in my Cumnor Hill, Oxford private gym & garden (weather dependent), on Zoom, or a mix of both.

Session contents

Once we have decided if this is the right option and you have signed up to a block of 4 sessions and filled in an online questionnaire, the first session looks at the way you currently move and incorporates a discussion about your goals. From this session, you will have some homework to put in practise before the next session.

Subsequent sessions are a mix of learning movements (both practical to be applied to daily life and healthy new movements to benefit your mobility, strength and confidence), assessing progress and giving you homework to build on the sessions and start to form new movement habits and increase your daily movement repertoire.

FAQs

  • Like all movement practices, the more you fit into your daily life the better.

To see the benefits, and to learn the skills & techniques weekly attendance of a class (live or by replay) would be the minimum amount needed.

In lessons, I also talk about ‘life-stacking’ which is a great way to add in many of the basic movements on a daily basis to see the benefits more quickly.

Consistency is always the key to moving and feeling better, but if moving (or exercising as people in the fitness industry say) becomes a chore, or you don’t feel the benefits, then it is hard to persevere. I love practising natural movement as it makes sense to my mind and body and I find it easy to fit around daily life.

How we move in every hour of our lives determines our strength and mobility (not just what we do in a class) and ultimately contributes to our overall health, hence the membership video library being split into longer form class videos (30 or 45 minutes) as well as over 80 (and growing) 5 & 10-minute videos that can be used as mini movement breaks throughout your day.

  • It is absolutely for you! The beauty of teaching natural movement is that all skills are broken down to be able to start re-building strong foundations at any level of ability or stage of life.

To be able to join group classes I would suggest starting with the mini videos in the membership to build your mobility and gain confidence in your movement abilities. If you are nervous to try, then perhaps some 1 to 1 coaching would be the best place to start to transition you to classes.

Everyone will start at a different place and that’s why I offer as many regressions of movement and progressions in classes and the MOVE mini video library can help you to practise movements at your own pace.

  • If you live in or around Oxford and can work with me in my private gym or if you live elsewhere I also coach 1 to 1 on zoom. I plan each session based on your personal movement abilities.

However, ‘Friends Groups’ are fun for 3 or 4 friends who decide to practice together as a private group. These can currently be held in my garden, or on Zoom from your own homes.

  • Natural movement skills are not confined to the size of a yoga mat, so having a rug or carpeted area to create a softer surface on which to kneel is useful if you feel your knees or hips need to be bolstered. I also sometimes use a yoga mat rolled up for certain movements too, but you can also use a rolled-up towel for these movements or even a cushion. A foam half dome is also a great alternative that you can use daily for various key stretches.

A space of about 6ft x 6ft is needed, but bigger is always useful for full freedom of movement. I would recommend practising in the garden on grass if your Wifi will stretch that far and the weather is kind to you, as practising in the fresh air is by far the best way to enjoy the practice. People sometimes push their beds aside (good strength training!) and work in their bedrooms.

If you attend a session in my gym, we use a whole variety of equipment like steps, poles, chairs, weighted balls, balancing planks and even a bar for hanging. Many of these items can be substituted in the home environment with bags full of books, mop handles, hard boxes and so on. I will always tell you the kinds of things you will need prior to the session in the app, so you can come prepared!

  • Once I have received your enquiry, I will contact you so we can discuss whether I am the right person to help.

I will then send you an email including a link to a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form, my coaching agreement in the form of my Terms & Conditions. Starting training with me means you are happy with these terms and conditions (all listed on this website).
